Listening to Country Music tonight from my cowboy town of Waimea, Big Island, Hawaii–and getting nostalgic for my trips out to Severence and Bruce’s Bar. Was a student at CSU from 1974-1978, and was a little apprehensive when I ate my first Rocky Mountain Oysters at Bruce’s, but I came to love them, and those Friday nights when a group of us would head out for some country swing in the best bar on the front range. Keep up the good work!

    Aloha,

    Emily

  4. Scott Stanley Says:

Twenty-five years ago when a precious-metals entrepreneur who lived in Ft.Collins bought Conservative Digest he hired me as Editor to run it, with the result that I found myself commuting between Washington and Ft.Collins. Soon I was a regular at Bruce’s Bar and entertaining staff and political visitors from Washington there. Among my favorite restaurants in the world, past and present, are: Rule’s in London; The Train outside Pretoria, South Africa; the old Stork Club and Luchow’s (both unhappily now gone)in New York; the Savoy Dining Room in Kansas City; and, of course, Bruce’s. Not necessarily in that order. And, come to think of it, my old publisher the precious-metals entrepreneur will be getting out of the federal penitentiary in January.

I spent weekends in Bruces Bar when I was a child, My Dad Don Gustafson used to play in the Band Travis Mimms and The Country boys, This place will always be a link I have to my father. I miss him very much, and I’m glad to have this connection. Tomorrow is the anniversary of his passing, July 10th 1981, He loved this place and I loved watching him in the band……I still love Rockey Mountain oysters to this day and no one makes them like You do! 15. Lot of memories here Says:

I was a junior at GHS in 1957, knew Bruce through my older brothers, Jim, Lyle and Lynn Smith. All three have since passed away. Jim drove stock car, black and silver, number 5, at same time Bruce and I think his brother were into stock cars. I was just the kid brother that hung out with all those guys there, Evans V, 2121, Nob Hill, White Horse, etc. Many fun times, We drove out there from Greeley have some fun. Can’t remember name of the bar in La Salle, that did the rocky mountain oyster, Silver Pheasant maybe?

Used to go here with my hubby & his grandpa. They were both so sad when you had to close. (Bruce shoulda asked us all if he was allowed die… so UNFAIR.) Anyway, just found out today that you guys were back up and running, and timing couldn’t be better since we’re moving to Colorado this year. SWEET! The family tradition is BACK ON. And Bruce lives on through you… thanks. Catch ya soon!
